Michael Johnsen, Member for Upper Hunter has revealed that Roads and Maritimes have allocated the next part of the project to replace the Barrington Bridge to GHD Pty Ltd.
The company will be responsible for the bridges’ initial designs, environmental assessment, geotechnical investigation, completed design plans and the development of all related documents for the bridge.
The current proposal involves the replacement of the old timber bridge with a structure with an upgraded alignment that would ultimately significantly decrease short and long term maintenance costs. It is also expected that the realignment will help freight productivity in the Barrington area.
The current Barrington Bridge has existed since the 1920’s, however the bridge will be removed and replaced by a new low maintenance bridge that will include a pedestrian footpath. Final designs are yet to be finalised, but the feedback received on the project during feedback sessions in February of this year will play a big part in the designs.
Barrington Bridge will remain in service whilst the new bridge is being built, so freights and motor vehichles will not have to make significant detours during their normal journey.
The project is being funded via $700,000 granted to the project from the NSW Government.
