Member for North Shore Jillian Skinner MP revealed yesterday plans to expand the wharf in Milsons Point as well as a new interchange that serve to increase capacity and generally improve the service of ferries running within the wharf.
The upgrade will be Milson Points wharf’s second in recent years, after it received an upgrade in 2010. The 2010 overhaul saw a boost in accessibility for older commuters, disabled commuters and those wishing to travel on the ferries with prams.
Jillian Skinner spoke of the upgrades, stating “This upgrade will mean more frequent, reliable services for ferry customers and improved boarding and disembarking times during peak periods”
“The initial upgrade (in 2010) increased mobility access and enabled efficient ferry access from the one platform. Customers also benefited from increased protection from the weather and improved seating.”
Roads and Maritime Services will shortly ask for feedback from the community and key stakeholders regarding the planned expansion. This feedback will help inform the relevant parties of what is needed to be done to progress the new upgrade.
Fortunately, it is expected that the works will have a very minor impact on the day to day operations of the Wharf, with it expected to stay open during the construction works. If at any stage work needs to be done that may danger people within the wharf, then it will be briefly closed. Alternative transport will be arranged in these instances.
