The 76th contract for the $4.36 billion, 155 kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade project has been awarded to BMD group.
Chris Gulaptis, State Member for Clarence has spoken of the importance of the major contract that will provide six temporary roads next to the highway between Maclean and Devils Pulpit.
“This key enabling work will provide temporary lanes at Yamba, Harwood, Garrets Lane, Iluka, Chatsworth South and Chatsworth North to move traffic off the existing highway so the highway upgrade can be completed.”
“Work is expected to start in coming months with the temporary lanes progressively opening to traffic from next year, weather permitting”
The works will enable the necessary works on the highway to be carried out safely and without disruption, as vehicles will have access to the temporary roads.
The project still has lots of work to be done, and Mr Gulaptis spoke of the progress of the other works required to complete the project, inviting other consortium's to apply for the works.
“In August, two contracts to provide survey services for the upgrade were awarded to companies VFT and Pacific Survey.
“About $1 billion worth of contracts will be issued for tender between now and the end of the year including close to $800 million of major civil work across the alignment.
“This will mean the vast majority of the major contracts for the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade will either be issued for tender or evaluated by the end of the year.
“Contractors interested in tendering for work on the upgrade should sign up for updates and regularly monitor the tender website.
