Safety improvements for the Great Western Highway at Valley Heights

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists work on an essential upgrade to improve pedestrian and motorist safety at the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Peninsula Road at Valley Heights will take place from Monday 29 August.

“The NSW Government is providing $180,000 towards the intersection upgrade which includes the installation of a new holding area on the Great Western Highway for motorists turning from Peninsula Road and improving the right turn lane to allow for safer turns into Peninsula Road,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“The give way sign on Peninsula Road will be replaced with a stop sign and a new median island will be installed to improve safety for pedestrians.

“Work will be carried out between Monday 29 August and Wednesday 30 November and is expected to take 15 shifts to complete.

“In response to community feedback on a proposed schedule, work will be carried out across a series of night shifts to take place during a three week period between Sundays and Fridays from 8pm to 5pm.

“Work will also be under way on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and Saturdays between 8am and 1pm, weather permitting.

“To ensure the safety of workers, some lane closures may in place and road users are advised to allow extra travel time, follow the direction of traffic controllers and keep to reduced speed limits where in place.

“Motorists are thanked for their patience while this important work is carried out.”
