New residential complex approved in Sydney Olympic Park

The Department of Planning and Environment has approved plans to bring a new residential complex to Sydney Olympic Park regenerating the area with new homes, attaching conditions addressing issues raised during public consultation.
 
Mirvac’s proposal to construct four residential buildings ranging in height from five to 15 storeys on Figtree Drive will create 500 new construction jobs and 20 ongoing jobs at the site.
 
The complex will also include retail space on the ground level, 500 basement parking spaces, 624 bicycle spaces and 25 motorcycle spaces for residents and visitors.
 
A spokesperson from the Department said the building plans demonstrate design excellence and were designed as part of a design competition process.
 
“The Department publicly exhibited the proposal between October and November 2015,” a spokesperson said.
 
“There were no objections received by the Department.
 
“Key issues raised during the consultation period include roof design and how the buildings relate to the surrounding area.
 
These issues were closely considered by the Department and stringent conditions have been applied in response, including:

• architectural plans must be updated to reduce the appearance of visual bulkiness by removing pop-up elements which were specific roof design features for one of the buildings
• a detailed landscape plan must be prepared to consider the future redesign of Linear Park

“Consultation with the community is enshrined into the process for assessing applications like these,” a spokesperson from the Department said.
 
“The Department has thoroughly assessed the application under clear and consistent rules, which are the same for every applicant.”
