Road work upgrades on Underwood Road at Homebush have been scheduled to begin next week.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the project would be fully funded by the New South Wales government.
“This area of Homebush has high levels of pedestrian activity with residential and entertainment precincts and a large shopping centre,” they said.
“Currently the signalised crossing on Underwood Road is located very close the Australia Avenue roundabout with limited line of sight for drivers.”
The project aims to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow near the Australia Avenue intersection.
Pedestrian fencing will be installed on both the northern and southern sides of Underwood Road.
“Feedback on a proposal to relocate the pedestrian crossing on Underwood Road was sought in December last year,” they said.
“The project will involve moving the crossing near the intersection of Homebush Bay Drive about 120 metres south.”
The project is expected to be completed June.
