The New South Wales government has announced the beginning of planning for the $21.2 million Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation project.
Minister for Regional Development, Fiona Nash, was present at the project site in Kingscliff today.
“The project will contain three main elements with works undertaken at the foreshore, Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park and a new Kingscliff Central Park,” Nash said.
“This will help protect Kingscliff's public and central business districts from coastal erosion and reduce the impact caused by natural events.”
The project is being funded as part of Round Two of the National Stronger Regions Fund.
Tweed Shire Council Acting General Manager, David Oxenham, said the Australian government had committed over $9.8 million towards project.
“The project will modernise the Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park's facilities and services to better meet the changing and increasing demands of tourists and create a Central Park that will be a social hub and better link the beach and central business district,” he said.
“A new rock seawall will be constructed along the foreshore to protect Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club, Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park and Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club from creeping erosion.”
The project is scheduled for completion by December 2018
