Rail options considered between Bankstown and Liverpool

Posted On March 11, 2016

The NSW government is considering a number of transportation options to improve connections between Bankstown and Liverpool.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance, said the investigation could include a possible extension of the new Sydney Metro.

“As Sydney Metro construction rapidly progresses, we’re taking the opportunity to plan for future transport possibilities down the track,” Constance said.

“Now we’re investigating how we can deliver better transport outcomes for Sydney’s growing south west, including a potential extension of Sydney Metro, and this is a chance for people to have their say.”

The first stage of the new Sydney Metro will open in 2019, possibility opening opportunities to develop a train station in Liverpool.

Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons, said Transport for NSW has identified a future extension of the railway for Liverpool.

“This potential extension would support growth in Sydney’s south west by connecting suburbs, businesses, jobs and services as well as improving access between the south west and Sydney’s CBD,” Gibbons said.

“It would also reduce growth pressure on road infrastructure and the existing rail network, including the potential to relieve crowding on the T1 Western Line, T2 South Line and T2 Airport Line.”

The local community will have an opportunity to voice their opinion.
