Initial works for the $5 million upgrade of Riverside Drive at Nambucca Heads are complete.
Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, said the project is an important contribution to the Nambucca Heads community.
“The upgrade ensures the Nambucca Heads community continues to function as it should regardless of the weather, while also reducing the chance of vehicles travelling on the nearby Pacific Highway being affected by a landslip,” Truss said.
“The works undertaken to date were completed under budget. This has allowed for additional works to be undertaken on the project within the original funding commitment, which will complement the original safety and efficiency objectives of the Riverside Drive project.”
Landslips previously have blocked access to Nambucca Heads, affecting the nearly 8,000 vehicles which use the road each day.
Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, said the upgrade was particularly important for nearby residents.
“Many residents of Nambucca Heads have established their livelihoods along Riverside Drive, including homes and businesses,” Hartsuyker said.
“This upgrade is now protecting families against the loss of their home by landslide as well as unnecessary job losses and traffic disruption, all of which is great for the Nambucca Heads community.”
Construction of the project started in February 2015.
