The New South Wales government is proposing to build a new noise wall between Metcalfe Street and Warringah Freeway.
An RMS spokeperson said the $1.3 million project would be delivered under the Noise Abatement Program.
“The Warringah Freeway is a vital connection between the north of Sydney and the CBD and experiences high traffic volumes during peak travel times,” the spokesperson said.
“A noise wall between Metcalfe Street and the freeway would reduce noise for residents in Cammeray.”
The Noise Abatement Program aims to reduce traffic noise for residences, schools, hospitals and churches.
Bottle brush and spiky native grasses will be planted close to the wall to discourage graffiti and vandalism.
“Some vegetation would be removed or trimmed so work can take place and an ecologist would be on site to oversee work and ensure environmental impact is minimised,” they said.
“Semi-mature trees would be planted to replace some of the removed vegetation and provide natural screening to deter vandalism.”
Work is expected to start in July next year if approved.
