Contract awarded for stage two of Narellan Road upgrade

Posted On October 29, 2015

Seymour Whyte Constructions Ltd has been awarded the contract for the $114 million stage two upgrade of the Narellan Road.

Federal Minister for Major Projects, Paul Fletcher, said the Western Sydney road network is vital to supporting growth in the region.

“The Narellan Road upgrade will provide additional capacity for the growing population of Western Sydney, improve traffic flow, and provide greater safety for motorists and residents,” Fletcher said.

“Almost $20 million worth of contracts have been awarded to 65 Western Sydney suppliers and contractors since the announcement of the WSIP, which is translating into jobs for local residents.”

The upgrade will transform 6.8 kilometres of Narellan Road to Blaxland Road with a total of six lanes.

The $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan is expected to create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next 10 years.

Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, said the transformation is one of the biggest construction projects in recent history.

“We’re making Western Sydney an even better place to live and do business,” Gay said.

“Western Sydney is Australia’s third largest economy and following these major road upgrades we’re going to see even more companies investing in the area bringing more than 200,000 jobs with them.”

Work on stage two of the project is expected to begin later this year and be completed in 2018.
