The NSW government have assigned new tow-away areas to assist in the enforcement of parking regulation.
Motorists caught parking in No Parking, No Stopping and Bus Zone areas will be liable for action in Sydney CBD starting from next week.
Sydney CBD Transport Coordinator General, Marg Prendergast, said the new powers expanded transport agencies’ existing ability to tow vehicles left in clearways.
“George Street closures will proceed gradually from 23 October, block-by-block, but when construction is at its busiest we will have 25 per cent less north-south road space in the city centre,” Prendergast said.
“We are reducing the number of buses in the core of the city, but demand will still be extremely high for less road space, particularly on the new bus priority routes such as Elizabeth, Pitt, Castlereagh, Park, Druitt, Clarence and York streets.”
The new tow-away area will be bordered by Sydney Harbour to the north, to Cleveland Street to the south.
“Anyone who drives into the CBD should actively look for signs, even in familiar areas, as the parking restrictions are likely to have changed in regards to what vehicles can stop and for how long,” he said.
