Carrington Street redevelopment approved

Posted On September 29, 2015

The Carrington Street based-site near Wynyard Station in Sydney CBD has been approved for redevelopment by the Planning and Environment Department.

The project aims to upgrade eastern access to Wynyard Station and construct retail and commercial facilities.

A departmental spokesperson said the existing Menzies Hotel and 301 George Street buildings would be demolished.

“This redevelopment will bring much needed commercial capacity to the northern part of Sydney’s central business district, with approval for a 27-storey building housing offices and shops,” said the spokesperson.

“This will provide premium grade commercial office space next to major transport infrastructure, in line with the government’s commitment to employment-related infrastructure near transport facilities.”

The heritage-listed properties at 285 George Street and Shell House are to be refurbished.

“It will also provide an important upgrade to one of the major access points to Wynyard Station, Sydney’s third busiest and one of its oldest.

The project is associated with the NSW Government’s upgrade of Wynyard Station.
