The NSW government will seek tenders to complete the next stage of the Woolgoolga to Ballina section of the Pacific Highway upgrade.
Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, said the upgrade is vital towards delivering one of Australia's largest road infrastructure projects.
“The 155 kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade is the final section of the Pacific Highway upgrade, which is on track for completion before the end of the decade,” Truss said.
“Once the upgrade is complete it will shave 25 minutes off the travel time between the two centres and is expected to reduce crashes along the section by more than 20 per cent.”
Federal Member for Page, Kevin Hogan, said soft soil treatment will be carried out on sections of the highway before major building work starts.
“The Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade crosses several floodplains and geologically complex regions, with some sections of highway requiring work to improve the stability of underlying soft soils. This project shows the Australian Government's commitment to strengthening the national road network,” Hogan said.
The Australian and New South Wales governments are providing $282.3 million each for the project.
