$5.5 million is being spent on work to improve Cary Street in Toronto.
Parliamentary Secretary, Scot MacDonald, said the NSW Government will upgrade Cary Street between The Boulevarde and Bay Street.
“The safety improvements are aimed at reducing congestion and delays during peak travel times and improving safety along Cary Street,” MacDonald said.
“Cary Street will be widened on the western side to provide two lanes in each direction between The Boulevarde and Victory Parade with right turn bays installed at the Donnelly Avenue and James Street intersection.”
Cary Street is used by around 25,000 vehicles a day and provides direct access to residential, commercial and recreational areas.
The upgrades are in response to the 23 crashes resulting in 17 injuries since the start of 2010 on the road.
“New traffic lights will also be installed at the Donnelly Avenue and James Street intersection,” he said.
“A site compound will be installed on James Street at Toronto from Monday 21 September and work to relocate utilities will continue with road widening activities starting soon.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
