Planning Minister, Rob Stokes, announced the release of 7,700 hectares of land south of Campbelltown.
The move marks the first major land release in greater Sydney in more than a decade, to create new communities at Menangle Park, Mount Gilead and Wilton Junction.
“We will create vibrant new communities with new homes close to jobs, transport, shops and recreational areas. Through good planning, we will also ensure we maintain the rural lifestyle and heritage of the area,” Stokes said.
“These communities will help improve accessibility to the housing market by increasing supply in greater Sydney and putting downward pressure on prices.”
The release hopes to facilitate for up to 35,000 new homes, schools, public transport, road upgrades and green space.
Member for Wollondilly, Jai Rowell, welcomed the plan as a huge improvement for the region.
“I am delighted the NSW Government has a vision for our region, which will improve community facilities while protecting the unmistakable character of our community,” Rowell said.
Work is expected to start on new homes in Mount Gilead within the next two years.
