The NSW government has released plans of how they could potentially upgrade Sydney’s Camellia Precinct over the coming years.
Minister for Planning, Rob Stokes, said the plan is to create a distinctively new identity for Camellia to create better accessibility and services.
“This will be a productive, sustainable and liveable place with waterfront parks and a riverfront promenade for the community to enjoy the environment around them, and a business activity corridor to support economic activity in the region,” said Stokes.
Camellia is situated roughly 3km from Parramatta CBD and has been conned an “industrial wasteland” with large oil refining and freight distribution facilities contained with the area.
Member for Parramatta, Geoff Lee, said that Camellia could transform into prime waterfront living and be home to more than 20,000 high-rise apartments for 10,000 workers within the next two decades.
“This area is set to become a brilliant new community on the Parramatta River, with parks and shops for local residents and the area’s natural assets being regenerated to create a clean and healthy environment,” Dr Lee said.
Parramatta City Council are strongly considering transport and road upgrades, cycle ways, parks, shopping hubs and schools for the new community.
Plans for the precinct as set to go on exhibition for the public.
