New design for Wickham transport interchange

NSW Premier Mike Baird said the interchange will help meet future transport needs of the Newcastle community through the Newcastle Light Rail project.

“The state-of-the-art transport interchange will allow for the future development of Newcastle Light Rail and will help reconnect the city with the forshore,” Mr Baird said.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance feedback on the origainal design promted an update to the plans.

“We want to create a striking public space that not only looks good, but will provide easy access for public transport customers,” Mr Constance said.

The Wickham transport interchagne is due to open in 2017 and will incorporate the new intercity train fleet.

Further feedback on the design will be sought from local residents, businesses and coucil.
