Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Western Sydney
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Western Sydney, Mr Ray Williams today announced that Laing O’Rourke has been awarded the contract to deliver a major accessibility upgrade of Wentworth Falls Station.
The upgrade will deliver major improvements, including three new lifts, new forecourt areas as well as canopies to protect customers from extreme weather.
"Upgrades like these will make life easier for customers and further encourage people to use public transport instead of hopping in their car," Mr Williams said.
"This is a huge boost for hundreds of Blue Mountains customers, especially older people, people with a disability and parents with prams."
Now that a contractor is on board, detailed design for the improvements will get started.
"I want to thank the community for taking the time to provide feedback on the proposal when plans were on public display in December 2014 and January 2015," Mr Williams said.
"Your feedback has been considered by the project team and will be used to guide the design as it develops."
The upgrade at Wentworth Falls is being delivered as a part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver accessible, modern and integrated transport infrastructure.
Blue Mountains and Western Sydney customers are already benefiting from new commuter car parks delivered under the Transport Access Program, including Katoomba, Emu Plains, Mount Druitt and Kingswood.
Glenbrook Station customers are also already benefiting from a new commuter car park which was opened in March 2014, with a new ramp and accessible car parking spaces also currently under construction near the station.
At Hazelbrook, the existing commuter car park on Railway Parade is being upgraded with new road pavement, line marking, drainage improvements, lighting and landscaping to improve access and safety.
Customers are also set to benefit from new commuter car parking spaces being delivered at Mount Victoria and Katoomba stations in the coming months.
New station canopies have also recently been installed at Blaxland and Springwood stations to protect customers on the platform from rain and sun, while station upgrades are also planned at Penrith, Wentworthville, Blacktown, and Pendle Hill.
Mr Williams who was joined by former Blue Mountains member Roza Sage said, ‘I’m proud to be here today with Roza Sage who has fought so hard to achieve these important transport and road safety improvements for residents of the Blue Mountains,’
‘Upgrades to rail stations and the completion of the Great Western Highway are evidence of the significant infrastructure investment by the Liberal/National Government in this area ‘ Mr Williams said.
