Tenders invited for Pacific Highway and Wyong Road intersection upgrade

Plans for the major upgrade of Pacific Highway and Wyong Road intersection at Tuggerah are moving to the next stage with building tenders for major work invited today.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast, Scot MacDonald MLC said the NSW Government has provided $10 million this financial year toward the intersection upgrade which involves replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights to improve safety and traffic flow.

“Safety improvement work is planned at the roundabout at the Pacific Highway and Wyong Road intersection to address crash risk and improve traffic flow where the intersection becomes congested during peak hours,” Mr MacDonald said.

“This upgrade is also expected to ease congestion along the Pacific Highway and Wyong Road and provide more reliable travel times for the more than 55,000 road users that use this intersection daily.

“Roads and Maritime Services recently completed early work around the site which included utility relocations, road surface repairs, installation of storm water drainage, new kerb and gutter and vegetation removal.

“Major upgrade work includes building a new bridge for eastbound traffic beside the existing railway overbridge, widening Wyong Road to provide three lanes in each direction and two turning lanes for vehicles turning both left and right from Wyong Road onto the Pacific Highway.

“The existing pedestrian underpass will also be extended as part of this main upgrade work.”

Mr MacDonald said this next step in the upgrade is exciting news for the people of the Central Coast and shows the commitment of the NSW Government to provide vital infrastructure for the region.

“Three pre-qualified contractors have been invited to submit tenders following expressions of interest carried out in April this year.” Mr MacDonald said.
