Construction on the Werrington Arterial Road at Claremont Meadows has reached the halfway mark.
Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, said the project formed an important part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.
“It is great to see this project powering ahead so quickly, getting benefits to the motorists sooner. I look forward to the upgrade opening by the end of the year,” Gay said.
“The Australian and NSW governments are delivering a sensible road network for the future for the people of Western Sydney. This particular project is an investment which should have been made decades ago and we’re getting on with the job.”
The $70 million upgrade of Werrington Arterial Road makes links to the M4 Motorway and Great Western Highway.
Minister for Major Projects, Paul Fletcher, said traffic has already moved onto a new section of Gipps Street and Kent Road as part of the upgrades.
“This upgrade is an important part of our plan to improve key arterial roads in Western Sydney, reduce travel times and improve safety for motorists in the area,” Fletcher said.
Once completed, the new Werrington Arterial Road will help reduce congestion on the north-south corridors of Mamre Road.
The project is expected to be completed late-2016.
