From Monday, 1 August travellers within the Opal network zone will need an Opal card or Opal single trip ticket for their entire journey.
Currently customers who don’t have their Opal card with them can purchase an Opal single trip ticket through top up machines at stations for travel on trains, light rail and ferries. Single Opal trip tickets will also be available on buses from 1 August 2016.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the move to one system will enable future innovation in transport ticketing.
“With the single electronic system we can move to the next stage in ticketing, with a customer trial in 2017 for tapping on with credit and debit cards,” Mr Constance said.
