Work has begun on the Golden highway following a $3.5 million grant under the Resources for Mining Affected Regions program.
Member for Upper Hunter, Michael Johnsen, said the works would improve access to Palace and Crinoline Streets.
“Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for providing feedback on the proposal which included realigning a 120 metre section of the highway to bypass the existing four-way intersection at Palace and Crinoline streets,” Johnsen said.
“Following a review of the comments received in October this year the project will be carried out with the aim of improving safety and traffic flow for vehicles travelling on the highway and reducing braking for heavy vehicles.”
The project site office is expected to be established around 350 metres south of Cawsey Park.
Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am to 1pm until mid-next year.
“The major work will involve improving storm water drainage, rebuilding new pavement and providing new safety barriers,” said Johnsen.
“As this work occurs over the Christmas period, Roads and Maritime would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while this essential road safety improvement work is carried out.”
Major works are expected to begin in January next year following the holiday break.
