Road upgrades for stage one of the $500 million Northern Beaches Hospital project will begin next week.
New South Wales Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, announced stage one of the project which will provide access to the hospital.
“This important milestone signifies the New South Wales government is getting on with the job of improving infrastructure to support the new hospital,” Gay said.
“The $500 million project will supply essential road access to the hospital and reduce congestion for road users in the area.”
Trees and vegetation will be removed, with further rock excavation and road surface work.
Works will begin with the construction of the Wakehurst Parkway and Frenchs Forest Road intersection.
New South Wales Premier, Mike Baird, said the hospital is an essential addition to the community.
“I’m proud we are delivering on our promises, and delivering world-class health care facilities to the Northern Beaches. These road upgrades will ensure the community has easy access to the new state-of-the-art Northern Beaches Hospital when it opens in 2018,” Baird said.
“Seeing this work starting will be great because it means we are getting closer to delivering benefits such as improved safety and reduced travel times to motorists.”
Stage one works are expected to be completed late December.
