Track laying is now complete at Rouse Hill, where the new world-class Sydney Metro maintenance facility will be based.
The completed railway tracks at the facility sit on 11,500 sleepers and 26,000 tonnes of ballast, with nine kilometres of both track and overhead wiring now in place.
The maintenance facility will be used for train washing, inspection and repairs, wheel maintenance and major train maintenance.
It will eventually provide stabling for 46 trains and maintenance services for a fleet of 76 trains as part of the new metro network.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said that the works brought the Sydney Metro one step closer to operation.
“This milestone means we’re one step closer to metro services running in Sydney’s booming North West, delivering a world class commuter service for generations to come.”
Across Sydney, more than 22km of railway tracks have now been installed, including inside Australia’s longest railway tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping.
The Sydney Metro is set to open in the first half of 2019, delivering a metro train every four minutes during peak times.
